As of now, this is an AU of Merlin. I imagine that it takes place post-S3, with the exception of changes to Episode 313. The change is basically just the very last scene. In canon, it's shown that though they are commoners the four new knights were accepted into the knighthood. Here, I'm imagining that Uther still didn't allow it, so the men left to wait for Arthur to become king.

1.) Yes, I intend for this to be epic road trip fic. Medieval epic road trip fic. :P

2.) Eire is the Irish word for Ireland today, and in the past was the single name for Ireland, like Albion was for Britain.

3.) I am also using this map of Eire/Ireland from c. 800, seeing as BBC is already using c. 800 political boundaries for their Arthurian geography, anyway. While Albion would already be heavily under Germanic and Roman influence by now, including the prevalence of the New Religion, these influences are only just seeping into Ireland, which is still under Celtic and Old Religion influences. Look at me and all my geeking out. And maps! I love maps! :D

4.) I'll try to stick to accurate history as much as possible. That said, this is legend, and BBC is already screwing up the timelines, anyway, so I'mna just fudge things up a bit. Mostly, it'll be right events, but wrong time. Hey, if BBC can do it, so can I. :P

My story's overall geography is based on this map and this map of British kingdoms c.800 - I know it's centuries after the timeline of the show, but they started it, bringing up Mercia and "Cendred's kingdom" (which is Northumbria). Camelot is a small kingdom between Mercia and Northumbria, slightly towards the west. I used this map of the Orkney islands to plan their trips through the Isles, and this one for the cities of the Orkney islands. Later, I will be basing the fic's plans in Fortriu based on this map.

so Merlin is a really powerful sorcerer right? I think this would make him highly desirable as a partner. I would like to see a fic where Merlin is being courted by other people. Merlin has no idea what to make of all this (he was raised in Ealdor so presumably knows noting of courting methods or something! IDK) and Arthur is jealous.

While I sometimes like reading about jealousy and possessiveness in fic, I absolutely hate it in real life, and I have ended relationships based on it. So I thought I'd transfer that experience to Merlin.
