You really don't even need to know much about the movies to understand the fic. All you really need to know: there are some people who have powers, called mutants, who are being ostracized by the rest of society because of their DNA, and a lot of the young ones run away to a special school for them that's a safe place, and there's some serious conflict going on over mutants in general. Beyond that, you don't really need to know too much at all, save some minor details which are largely explained in the fic, anyway. :D
