This is the sort of story that I just love; the plot is not really about this or that happening, not just plot, not just relationship, not just Uther, not just Arthur and Merlin, but a little of everyone, a little bit of everything from the show, yet really, the entire story is utterly emotional, mental, all about the mental landscape and relationships All that stuff is thrown into revealing itself through things physically occurring in the story - and I am a total sucker for double meanings when people speak, and irony
I absolutely loved the flashbacks being interspersed with the present - all that history, seeing Uther's motivations, changes in character, the mirroring and contrasting developments in relationships and events.
It can be pretty weird sometimes, dealing with a third party secretly looking in on situations and telling a story that way, with all the sneaking around/eavesdropping that Uther was doing but it was done really well - I never felt like I was seeing less of the story
It was an awesome story AND I really enjoyed it :) I don't read a lot in the Merlin fandom but yay so glad I read yours
