The first few lines of this poem were originally written as stanzas for a short story of mine. Later, I deleted the story, but kept the poem, and expanded it. This is the result.
War
Please remember to read my universal disclaimer on all my poetry if this poem causes you concerns over my mental health. Seriously, I don't want to have to explain myself every time I post something.
Skies and ground of crimson screams.
Sentience ripping at its seams.
Robbing them of their strength and will.
A child just old enough to kill.
A desire to live when about to die.
A fate to which no one can lie.
Running from my battered soul.
My heart to never again feel whole.
A silent scream and a silent shot.
A peace long lost though forever sought.
Innocence lost in the battleās blood.
Lost in the blood and the tears and the mud.
Fighting to win, no matter the cost.
Fighting the grief for all that was lost.
Fearing for my life to my very core.
That's all one ever has to know about war.
