Actually, the shapeshifting thing is my little homage to the original Arthurian legends. In many of the versions of the legend, Merlin is best known for his shapeshifting, and for changing the boy-king Arthur into various animals to teach him about ethics and stuff.

As for Cain...well, I've already got him all planned out, and I must say, he is a very...fun...character. ^_^
