Anyway, in terms of language survival, even if it's frequently used and utilized, no one really speaks it as a primary language anymore, and that's what I mean by survival.
As for the letters - I'm fairly well aware how different those things are. However, it is difficult for the average person (re: non-geek) to figure it out, and for the most part, people aren't really all too interested in the exact details of the pronunciation - they just want to get the gist of it enough to see if it fits for their story.
And on the language's origins: @_@. :D In all seriousness, pretty much any language has far too many sources and origins for anyone's good. *headdesk* Must be hell to try and study all of that...
