I'm glad you liked the scene. ^_~ I in terms of whumpage, I love physical, but psychological is my favorite and it's always been what I'm most interested in. (Hence why I loved your story so much). When it comes down to pain and torture, you're always trying to break the mind, first and foremost - physical pain is just a means to an end to achieve that. That's what makes the balance easier to handle. ^+^

And I'm also glad you like Cain. But, I don't think you were off the mark - Cain and Brom are going to be two separate monsters entirely, including what they're going to do to Merlin. >:)
