I was meant to write an ode/sonnet to Katie McGrath's boobs. This came out instead.

A woman, a lady, a goddess be
Skin glowing like the moon in bright of day
Her eyes, the color of the storming sea
That smile is a sin, leading me astray

And such is the flesh that she wears with pride
Beguiling me, temptation come alive
Within my heart does her allure reside
Where charms and seduction (my ruins) thrive

The darkened paths that she will lead me down
I follow happily, knowing my fate
In her gaze, in her bosom I will drown
Her supple curves and ripened chest await

My desecration, I will meet with joy
My lust and her carnality, our toy

Written today between activities when I attended the Fullbright Leadership Workshop for the Student Task Force, the student-run subset of the Human Rights Watch organization.

Strange Species (or: Humans) )

Some Background On The Poem:

A bit of a ramble on the poem’s origins that English teachers always like to hear and lecture about when it comes to poetry!

So, first off, how it happened: The tents from Camp Darfur had little writings and messages all over them, and I wanted to add something to it. But then the poem became too long so that was a lost cause, and I continued writing anyway, because I’m weird like that.

This had some inspiration, actually, from the poem “Strange Fruit”, written by Abel Meeropol in 1936 to describe the horror from the photographs of the lynching of two black men in the south. It was picked up in musical form by Billie Holiday in 1939, and despite her fear of retaliation for singing it, the song became a regular part of her live performances. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1978. I had thought of that poem when writing this, and the descriptive theme carried across.

If any of the imagery is unclear, I’d be happy to clarify.

All men's brains
Are 'tween their dick and their ass
If they're not thinking with the front
Then they're thinking with the back

Does anyone else feel like this explains everything as much as I do? :D

Originally written for a school project - dance class, to be specific. We were required to read out a poem, record it, and dance to it.

More specifically, freedom from slavery - I was vaguely thinking of the U.S. Civil War and slavery in America, and when I started the poem, it grew to be about slavery in general - and getting your freedom from it.

The first few lines of this poem were originally written as stanzas for a short story of mine. Later, I deleted the story, but kept the poem, and expanded it. This is the result.

So, before I start on that, a brief blurb on my personal history.

I don't really have much of an idyllic childhood, but then, many people don't. I dealt with it with poetry.

A lot of my poetry has violent and depressing themes. I'm not going to shoot out my school, or kill myself, or others. Please, do not take it seriously, just like people don't take my fic seriously - for me, the dark writing is a sign that I don't have problems because I have found a healthy outlet in which to release all that emotion - my writing.

Now, the poetry!
